Mighty Marvel was released in 1988 by ISM Inc, which as far as the About screen goes, was the work of one person, Winchell Chung.

I remember seeing the small, black and white quarter page advert for Mighty Marvel in A+ magazine again and again. I was always curious to see what it would be like and thankfully my curiousity was tamed when it was submitted to me.

What the hell is this game about?!? The A+ advert describes itself as a superhero role-playing game. You can choose an existing character, or create a new one, choose a map and scenario and choose the villain you wish to pit yourself against. There's no in game information provided to let you know what you have to do for each scenario. I played a couple of games and actually found the villain on the city map and he totally whipped me. I guess you just have to discover which super powers work best with which villains.

The game is relatively well presented, apart from the cheesy title screen. The isometric map views are quite well drawn, as are the super hero and villain sprites. I like the in game messages too, displayed in the second half of the mixed mode screen: "Mighty Marvel uses the invincible lungs power", or "the staggering Marvella wields the matchless Sixth Sense Power". The game uses what I think is a really cool custom font too.

The game actually slows down if run from System 6 as there seems to be long delays between loading character, scenario, map etc, however this may be because you should copy the game to the hard drive and change the application name to "Superhero". Don't forget to copy the font across too. The Hero Maker, also works with System 6, but the delays in File/Open dialogues and windows also occur.

That's all I can say about this game - if you've got a more comprehensive idea of how the game is to be played properly, write in.
