I have been trying to find something more portable that i can use day to day but also play with GS stuff. I decided to buy a Dell Mini 9 and put a retail 10.5 OSX and Windows 7 on it to be able to play the KEGSWIN and Sweet16 to get best of all the emulators. I speficially wanted Sweet16 as it seems to be the only one that is really still be developed on. I do hope Eric releases a newer version as I noticed recently it also suffers from slowdown...which don't make games that playable or the sound sound great.

One emulator i also use is ActiveGSApp 1.9 by FTA. I bought a PC Gameport/USB adapter so i could get that retro feel for a CH Products Mach 3 Joystick (my fav joystick for that retro feel lol) and though the emu doesn't allow boot from HD images the joystick actually works unlike Kegs.

Also if you only have an Intel Mac then running SheepShaver and Bernie in that is actually not too bad...isn't quite quick enough for action games but works ok for the adventure ones

Thanks for the great site Alex

Drew

Posted to: Warlock and Sweet16 Show Thread | Post Reply Wed, 24 Jun 2009 08:45:48 +0200 Drewbie https://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/games-forum/show/267?start=0#post271 Re: Warlock and Sweet16 https://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/games-forum/show/267?start=0#post269 Given that Sweet 16 was based on its older BeOS version, and that in turn was based on a version of Bernie ][ the Rescue before version 2.0, there are many programs that simply aren't compatible with emulation.

It's frustrating, because later versions of Bernie addressed many compatibility problems (not all) and they simply haven't been incorporated into Sweet 16 yet.

Fingers crossed that a new version of Sweet 16 will be released at this year's KansasFest, where I believe the previous two versions were announced at the two previous annual events.

It's a shame KEGS v0.91 hasn't progressed either, because as an emulator it's much more robust for accurate for emulation (it handles 3200 colour mode graphics and border effects which no other emulator can do) as well as being portable to different platforms. It could still benefit from an interface that makes the most of whatever operating system it's running in however, but the Apple II style text based interface that was introduced with version 0.90 is a major improvement.

I know some people find it strange, but I still mostly use Bernie v3.0p running under Classic on Mac OS X 10.4.11 for emulating a IIGS. Its user friendliness is unsurpassed and allows me to do what I want quickly. For accurate emulation, I use KEGS.

I have been using KEGS a lot more since I collated a lot of IIGS software onto the hard drive images for the CFFA Card Review, as I really like the feature that KEGS remembers which hard drives are mounted, as restarting the app means all my used partitions are already up and running, without me having to open them again (like Bernie). And it's accurate emulation means I can rely more on there being issues with specific programs, and not an issue with emulation itself.

Given that Warlock is on the Action Games partition I created, and is compatible with System 6.0.1, you could use KEGS and run it from that for play.

- Alex

Posted to: Warlock and Sweet16 Show Thread | Post Reply Wed, 24 Jun 2009 00:50:57 +0200 Alex Lee https://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/games-forum/show/267?start=0#post269 Warlock and Sweet16 https://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/games-forum/show/267#post267 Hi,

I have been setting up my IIGS emulators (Windows and OSX) and was trying to play Warlock on Sweet16 1.7 and 2.0 and it just didnt seem to work. Warlock seemed to work fine under Kegs on Windows. Anyone else tried it with Sweet16 and it work ok??

Cheers
Andrew

Posted to: Warlock and Sweet16 Show Thread | Post Reply Tue, 23 Jun 2009 23:58:32 +0200 Drewbie https://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/games-forum/show/267#post267
