Yep, it's chess. I'd prefer to play Battle Chess, but Chess Master 2100 is one for serious chess players who don't need the eye candy to enjoy a game. There are many different play options that die hard chess players will be more happy with than Battle Chess' scant variation in gameplay. Pull down menus provide many options during a game.
There are known problems with this copy of Chess Master 2100. One, that the menu bar disappears when run from System 6, but is still accessible. Two, the menu bar will ALWAYS be invisible with ROM03 machines. Three, the game doesn't always run from System 6 - sometimes it does, other times it hangs the IIGS with a black screen in need of a restart. Four - the game freezes when moving a chess piece when loaded from the version of ProDOS 16 found on disk; it's entirely possible this is an emulation problem, specifically with Bernie, because entering the control panel unfreezes the game again, although it's not very playable like this.
