I will have to rummage through my garage but I used to own that game and the Futurepad that came with it. It was pretty good fun.
According to Mr Johnson, the pad used something called variable capacitance to sense how high your hand was over the pad which rested on the desk next to your keyboard. It gave the ability to control Z axis and in the Futureshock game, you used it to make the marble jump over obstacles.
Ok. Update before I even finish posting. I found my old FuturePad and I took a picture of it and posted it as a submitted screenshot. It's been in the garage for 16 years or so but it cleaned up pretty well for the pic.
