OK.. I remember years ago, back in about 3rd grade, they got an Apple IIGS in my class, and I remember playing a game on it.. don't remember a whole lot about it, I think it might have been something just to teach you how to use the mouse now that I think about it.. Either way, I'm pretty sure that it was included with the IIGS hardware. I remember it was on a 3.5" floppy..i think.. Anybody know what i'm talking about? and if so, remember the name of the software? I remember it being something of a side-scroller.

The only program that came with the IIGS that was both instructive and platformer-like was "Your Tour of the Apple IIGS," which is in the System Software menu selection under the Applications Tab at the top of this page. It featured an Indiana Jones-like personality to lead through a series of obstacles with the mouse interface, teaching skills like drag and drop and double clicking.

hah I believe that's actually it.. I was in 2nd or 3rd grade back then, I remembered playing something on the computer in the classroom (when i was supposed to be "learning") but since that was the only "game" type application on the machine, (well, that and some other software..something about breeding bugs or something like that) i used to play it. After installing the beta of Windows 7 hah, the newest OS so far.. I might just go download me an old school IIgs emulator.. I haven't seen one of those since..damn..1991 or 92. Thanks!
edit: Wow.. I never knew they had a color version.. I remembered playing the B&W version on a color screen..cool

There were actually TWO versions of the IIGS Tour, I'm surprised only one of them is archived and reviewed on the site.
The first was called "Your Apple Tour of the Apple IIGS". Released in 1986 it used monochrome Double-Hi-Res graphics (black and white), the Pascal operating system and required only 256K RAM. It was GS-specific, it talked about the (then) new machine, its new features and used a mouse interface and digitized sounds. This is what shipped with my early GS, along with System 1.0 (MouseDesk, another program using mono DHR!). It was an entirely different--the animated introduction, the mini games (steering a car instead of moving an explorer guy, swatting flies instead of bats).
The next one was released in 1988, called "Tour of the Apple IIGS". It ran under GS/OS (System 4), used color Super-Hi-Res graphics, added music and required more RAM. I got my copy when I upgraded up a ROM 3 in 1990. :)
There was also a a similar 1986 tour released by Apple France, called "Maitrisel Vorte Souris!". I uploaded it 15 years ago to some of the major FTP sites at the time, but it too doesn't seem to be on the website here.
Guess I just volunteered to upload these two 1986 Tours. :) (unless they're already on hand, Alex?)

The archive for Your Tour of the Apple IIGS (found in the system software section) include both the black and white and the colour version.
I have a copy of the Apple France demo, but it's not online...yet.
