Hello,
I'm wondering if someone might know of a way to find copies of two early RPGs written by John Carmack, Shadowforge (1989) and Wraith: The Devil's Demise (1990), both published by Nite Owl Productions. I've been looking for them everywhere, but to no avail - well, almost. I've actually found an .shk file of Wraith here: http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/GS.WorldView/v2000/Sep/Archives/, and even used CiderPress to unshrink it and turn it into a .po image, but KEGS32 fails to run the game for me for some reason. :(
I *think* both Shadowforge and Wraith are supposed to be Apple II GS games, but truth be told I'm not even sure about that - they're extremely obscure. The games must be abandonware at this point since Nite Owl Productions has long ceased to be, so ideally I'm looking for a disk image I could actually run with KEGS32.
Barring that, if someone has the games, would you be so kind as to take a couple of in-game screenshots? I'm preparing a retrospective article on Ultima-likes for the RPG Codex (http://rpgcodex.net/), and both Shadowforge and Wraith are supposed to be just that so I'd love to have some screenshots, at least.
Thanks
- Irina

I too tried running Wraith: The Devil's Demise found at http://apple2.org.za/gswv/a2zine/Games/
It doesn't take long before the game crashes for me. It gets as far as the title screen asking me if I want to watch the demonstration or play a game. I enter in my name and then SSRRRRREEEECCCCCHHHHH, it makes a loud annoying noise and yeah, that's the game :)
I'm sure someone must have a copy of both this and Shadowforge. You might try asking on http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.apple2/topics since both these games are technically Apple II games at the programming level.

Sorry it's taken so long to respond to your request cbee!
If you go to:
http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/wraith
I've now got an archive up of Wraith. It'll require a IIGS, even though it's not actually a IIGS specific program. More details on that page itself.
It's part of 8-bit Apple II software that was released on 3.5" disk:
http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/8-bit-games-on-3-5-disk
Hope you enjoy the game! Let us know via the forum here how it goes, as I haven't tested it myself.

Hey, Alex, thanks, runs fine for me! Super cool.
I take it you don't have an archive of Shadowforge? I'll try asking on http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.apple2/topics, then, as TanRuNomad suggested.
