Greetings !
I'm a huge Ultima fans, and I've recently been made aware of the existence of a 94 remake of Ultima I with improved graphics and sound.
Since I'm kind of crazy nerd in terme of Ultima I do like to track down existing version of the games to see how they differ from another and I'm trying to track down an existing version of this Ultima I - unfortunately to no avail.
It does seem that until very recently it was still directly available from a shope called Shareware Solution and the game co-developpers' Joe Kohn. Unfortunately, it seems that he passed away earlier this way and taht understandbly the shop no longer exists.
So I'm wondering if some of you guys knew of any way I could find this version of Ultima I ?
Thanks in advance

I too was an Ultima fanatic back in the day! Started with Ultima II in 1985 (came across it by shear chance in a pile of copied disks, became incredibly caught up in it!) and after completing it moved on to Ultima III, IV and finally V--the latter of which I played on my IIGS in 1988.
I have the remake of Ultima 1 for the GS here. It was originally published by Vitesse, then picked up by Shareware Solutions II. It's been abandonware ever since Joe Kohn passed away last year, although last I heard, there were plans from his estate to reclassify all his software and products as freeware. Seems that is still yet to be done, apart from his newsletter. There's a review of it on this site, but the disk image is offline; personally I think it should be put back up with 'abandonware' status at this point in time.
It was quite nice actually. The MIDIsynth music was decent, and it had hand drawn and colorized artwork for the monsters in the dungeon (instead of stick figures) that were quite well done from what I remember. There was a classical piece played with a realistic sounding pipe organ in the dungeon stage, still remember it! :)

Mr. Spector or any Ultima fan with a copy of the IIGS-
Would you be willing to take a few screenshots of the AppleIIGS Ultima I? I'm currently writing a research article on the Ultima series for the internet magazine http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/, and the ridiculous rarity of the AppleIIGS version makes hunting down information and screenshots very difficult. Any help in allowing me to cover this more obscure series entry would be appreciated! Might help give the IIGS platform a tiny bit more exposure, too, HardcoreGaming101 has a fairly large readership.
My email address is bladed.e AT gmail DOT c-o-m.

Does anyone have any up to date info on the availability of this game? I was wondering if there was any way to directly purchase a copy from whichever party currently hold the rights to sell the game.

LoveMyKitty: Been almost exactly a year since I last wrote on the subject.
Well, let's see. Syndicomm, the last remaining Apple II software vendor, doesn't have it listed (or even a mention of it) on their website. And although it's now been two years since the passing of Joe Kohn, the Apple II Lost Classics Project has been silent on Ultima 1 or any of the other programs he sold.
Looking at my e-mail archives, in 2000, and then again in 2005, I tried to get Ultima 1 reclassified (back then I had successfully gotten a number of other commercial GS titles reclassified for the A2LCP) but unfortunately Joe wanted to keep selling it at the time.
As it stands now...two years in limbo, I would say Ultima 1 for the GS is officially abandonware. Might be worthwhile if I make another attempt at getting it reclassified.

One of the few games I have never played (or seen played) on the IIGS. I've heard great things about this version and hopefully will a get a chance to play it eventually.

Hi, everyone.
I've been looking for this game for years now! I can't tell you how many google searches, ebay searches, etc.
Does anyone have any current info on where this game might be available? Or maybe it is now considered abandonware and somebody here who owns it is willing to share?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
